WILTSHIRE Army officer Major Charles Ingram may have lost his chance of keeping his Who Wants to be a Millionaire jackpot because he has breached a contract banning him from speaking about the show.
Major Ingram, from Devizes, has been accused of cheating his way to £1 million after coughs, that appeared to correspond to the answers, were heard from the audience. He had been considered a weak contestant and struggled to reach £4,000 before going on to the top prize.
Scotland Yard has been called in to investigate claims and now Major Ingram faces another challenge after he called a press conference to deny the allegations. Programme makers Celador make all contestants sign a contract banning them from speaking about the show. The press conference may be a breach of that contract.
Ingram's win coincided with the publication of a book by his wife Diana and her brother, both of whom won £32,000 on the programme earlier this year.
Ingram is starting legal action to force Celador to honour his prize.
