SADLY it was not so much a case of picking the man of the match, rather a question of which player was less awful than the others.
On an afternoon when Town seemed to forget everything that had got them through their last five league matches, only Paul Edwards emerged with any real credit.
As at Port Vale on Tuesday night, the former Manchester City youngster used his pace and trickery to torment the Chesterfield defence.
At the moment the youngster is revelling in his first team role.
At Saltergate on Saturday he looked to be the one player in a Town shirt who was not afflicted by sluggishness and sloppy habits.
His attitude at present is one of 'give me the ball and I'll do some damage.'
He was unlucky not to give Town the lead in the first minute at Chesterfield and had that gone in then it made have been a totally different game at Saltergate.
But despite seeing Town fall behind just after half time, Edwards refused to let his head drop and he kept trying to cause problems for the Spireites defenders.
His pace is a real asset but the only question is whether his colleagues (Danny Invincible apart) are able to keep up with him.
Getting crosses into the box is all well and good but there needs to be someone rushing in to get on the end of them.
But there is no doubt Edwards has made a promising start to his Town career.
He did not perform superbly at Saltergate but at the very least he retained the belief in what he was trying to achieve.
