Cirencester opened their Gloucestershire Premier campaign with a hard-fought 13-10 victory over Forest of Dean visitors Drybrook.
After an earlier miss, Adam Seager kicked the home side ahead after Drybrook were caught offside.
The visitors surged forward and gained a penalty of their own, but Cirencester missed two more penalty chances and then skipper and flanker Chris Cox was denied a try as the referee adjudged a drop ball.
Some strong running from Colin Wright eventually set up Cirencester's try, Seager converting, but Drybrook, through a forward drive, bounced back to level at 10-10 by half-time
Alan Cuthbert regained the lead for Cirencester with a penalty and despite Drybrook mounting a later assault, the home side held firm.
