THE NEW minister at Immanuel United Reformed Church has been formally welcomed to the town.
The church in Upham Road in Old Walcot has been without a minister for two years, since the former reverend left to go to Sutton.
Now, the Reverend Michael Hodgson has come from Cheshire to take over, and had an induction service at the church on Saturday night.
He said: "I don't know much about Swindon or Wiltshire but I am very much looking forward to discovering a new area. The church people have been very welcoming.
"I think here I will face the same challenge of making the gospel relevant to the world today."
The preacher at the formal service and celebration was the general secretary of the United Reformed Church, the Reverend Dr David Cornick.
The service was led by the moderator of the South Western synod, Reverend Ray Adams.
