A MAN has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder a shopper who was queueing to buy his morning newspaper.
Alan Green allegedly stabbed the Asian man in an unprovoked attack at the One Stop Shop in Liden.
The victim today remained critically ill at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, where he was taken after emergency treatment by paramedics on the scene.
Green, 45, was arrested hours after the stabbing on Sunday and interviewed by detectives.
He was brought into Swindon Magistrates Court in handcuffs after an application by the prosecution was granted by magistrates.
The victim, whose family have been left devastated by the attack, has not been named. He suffered serious knife wounds to his back and chest.
Horrified shop staff called the emergency services after the attack, telling operators a man was bleeding heavily from several knife wounds.
Green, of Arnfield Moor, Liden, remained silent throughout the hearing, only nodding to confirm his name and address.
His case was adjourned until next Tuesday when he will appear at Bristol Crown Court.
