PEOPLE are being given a chance to have a say on draft proposals for dealing with Wiltshire's growing problem of waste.
On Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm in the Drove social hall, the first draft of the Wiltshire and Swindon Waste Local Plan will be on display. It provides targets, policies and a strategy for dealing with waste until 2001.
Swindon senior planner Dave Slatter, said: "We need to look at better ways of minimising and managing our waste. We need to look at recycling and reusing it and even using the latest technology to make energy from waste."
The plan identifies 18 possible areas where waste management facilities could be erected.
Three of these are in Swindon:
In addition to permitting the expansion of the existing household waste recycling centre, the former incinerator site in Barnfield road could be used to develop materials recycling and cater for compost production.
The land next to Chapel Farm landfill site could also provide composting facilities.
The former SEB depot in Faraday Road, Dorcan, could house a second household waste recycling centre.
