AFTER a cracking previous match in the Upper Thames Angling Times League, Team Daiwa Swindon crashed to eighth place in the latest encounter on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Bedwyn.
The cold weather has caused the fish, mainly small roach, to be packed up in shoals which caused some very patchy results.
Thatcham Angling Centre got the verdict on the day with 77 points, followed by Devizes Megabaits (league leaders) with 701/2 points, followed closely by Swindon Talisman with 70 points.
Peter Leek, fishing for Reading Match Group, led home the individual honours with a 17-8-0 catch from the Potters stretch. He used chopped worm and groundbait with pinkie and caster on the hook to take skimmer bream, roach and perch.
A 10lb carp was included in the second-placed bag of 12-14-8 taken by Steve Hunt of Drakes Bait. He took the carp on worm from peg F11 in the Ironbridge stretch.
Isis angler Brian Bathe got into the main prizes again, taking third spot with 12-5-0 of skimmers and roach. He used red maggot and squatt feeding worm and caster from his peg along the roadside.
Fourth was Bob Black (Thatcham) with 10-1-0, and fifth was Talisman's Paul Stansfield. He took a 9-3-0 catch from the same section as the winner.
