DIVISION Two side Westbridge United produced the giantkilling feat of the day in the PPL Presto Print sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Cup when they overcame high riding Premier Division outfit Corsham Park Rangers 3-0.
Paul Daly grabbed a brace before the half-time whistle and Paul Bendell sealed it with a fine effort in the 72nd minute.
Box Rovers never looked like conceding defeat against the George Lacock although they were never more than a goal ahead.
Goals from James Lye (2), Ben Sammut and Rob Humphreys saw the Box side into the hat for the next round. Martin Symons (2) and Les Davies got onto the scoresheet for visitors George Lacock.
Winsley visited Bradford Sports and hit three goals, with the only reply coming from Mark Robinson for the home side.
Christian Malford's Scott Evans scored five of his team's six goals to upset Division Two leaders placed West End Wanderers. Wayne Bailey and Tom Stadden added two apiece for the visitors, with Ian Ramsey claiming Malford's sixth.
Evans completed his hat-trick in the first seven minutes and league officials are now scouring the record books to see if it was the quickest ever recorded three goal blitz.
Terry's came from behind and needed extra-time before finally overcoming their Division Four rivals. Terry's started brightly, with good movement, but they failed to penetrate the Somerford defence. Terry's forced play with Jones and Pugh testing the goalkeeper, who proved equal to everything.
Somerford grabbed the lead through Chris Yeo when a defensive mix-up led to the ball being deflected into an unguarded net. Terry's had a chance to level from the penalty spot but a weak spot kick was beaten away by the goalkeeper.
The second half continued with strong resolute play by Somerford. Terry's way back into the game came courtesy of a second penalty, which Ross Pugh put away.
Neither side could find another goal in normal time, so an extra 30 minutes was required and Terry's made it count with a goal in each period. The first came from Mark Jones, who turned and fired into the net after the goalkeeper had spilled a cross.
The game was made safe in the second period after a superb pass from Winterbottom put Bliha through and he made up for his penalty miss with a low drive from a tight angle.
The whole Old Road Tavern team plus the referee were nominated by home side Hare and Hounds as 'the best there is'.
With a finely balanced match the clubs went into the break with just a single goal from Hare and Hounds' Neil Maclean separating them. Paul Revening added a second for the home side, with Barry Nash grabbing two to force the tie into extra-time.
With no further score the match was decided on penalties and Hare and Hounds kept their cool and scored three with no reply.
Farmhouse striker Derek Pow was denied a third consecutive hat-trick by the woodwork, after beating the Malmesbury Town goalkeeper twice in a Premier versus Third Division tie.
Malmesbury appeared to be cruising with a two goal cushion at half-time. Pow's efforts almost forced the tie to extra-time but the Malmesbury squad showed their superiority by finishing it within 90 minutes. Anthony Vizzard (2) and Stephen Hicks ensured that the Premier Division side remained in the competition.
Gladstone Liberal Club's Jason Prades hit the only goals in the first half against Sir Audley's Arms, with the sides turning round at 4-0. After the break Prade's team-mates added another four goals, one each from Matt Foster, Danny Thompson, Danny Allison and Mike Cassidy. The visitors' consolation strike came from Chris Shipway.
The Arms attributed the poor result to the manager trying out some new players.
Holders Cooper-Avon Rangers cruised into the next round with an easy 3-1 defeat of fellow Premier Division side Packhorse. At half-time it looked as if the match could go either way, with each side netting once each, through Will Elliot for Packhorse and Leigh Bramley for the visitors.
Dave Castle added a second for the Rangers and they made it safe with an own goal.
Division Three AFC Unicorn travelled to last year's finalists Pilot and almost caused an upset. Lee Scutter netted in the first half for the visitors with a brace coming in reply from Pilot's Mark Janes. Lee Scutter put the teams back on an even footing to force the match into extra-time. It was looking like penalty kicks would have to decide it when Damon Bailey saved the blushes of the Pilot crew by hammering home the winner in the last minute.
Semington's performance belied their league position, some 15 places below visitors Old Lane United, when they hammered six past the hapless Chippenham side. Stuart Barber and Kelvin Lockwood claimed two each with Bobby Mitchell and Martin Bray completing the demolition.
Trowbridge Town Colts and Atworth United, although a division apart, seemed evenly matched in the early exchanges, and at one each at half time the match was poised for a cliffhanger. With each side netting once more in the second half it needed another 30 minutes to decide who was to progress. Atworth proved to be worthy victors, but their hosts put in a gritty performance.
Premier Division
IN the Vanitec Computers sponsored league programme Melksham Motor Spares and Westbury Rangers were the only two sides to meet in a depleted programme.
The Melksham side moved slightly away from relegation position with a goal each from Simeon Mills and Wayne Stansby in a 2-0 win.
Division One
STRUGGLING Bromham produced one of their worst ever displays when they had no answer to visitors Colerne A's magnificent seven goals.
Scorers for Colerne were Jason Smith (3), Tony Trotman (2), Jamie Bowler and Brian Moses.
Once again a referee was singled out for praise from both sides when Hullavington Village met Trowbridge Harriers. Jerry Norcott scored once in each half for the home side.
All Cannings made sure of retaining top spot when they hammered home seven against home side North Star A, who only managed two in reply. Dean Potter impressed with a hat-trick, James Oram and Jack Williams added one each and Stewart Bevan converted two penalties.
Another penalty king was Julian Kirby, for Chippenham Police, but even with team-mates Tim Culling and Jason Roberts nicking another one each it was not enough to stop West Lavington grabbing all the spoils, with five goals.
Simon Curate snatched a hat-trick and Robert Hannah and Marcus Lovesy scorfed singles to clinch the victory.
Division Two
THE only encounter in this division was between Cooper-Avon and North Bradley.
Paul Hooper's double and singles from Pete Stephenson, Ben Howe and Daniel Prince gave the visitors a 5-1 win, Mick Wallbaun replying for the home side.
Division Three
IN the only match in this division Chippenham Black Horse took advantage of other teams' cup involvement to go top.
Leyton Brown and Darren Wishton netted for the home outfit with two fine replies from Jamie Alford and Alex Wysokie to see the teams go into the half-time break all square. After some good end-to-end play Gavin Moulton grabbed the winner to see Southwick Sports and Social return home empty handed.
Division Four
STRUGGLING King Alfred could contain Blue Circle Saints although the half-time score of 2-1 suggested that an upset could be on the cards.
King Alfred's goals came from Jason Cole and Andy Dowse, but Blue Circle Saints replied with six through Martin Hemmings, Wayne Bristow, Graham Kirk (2) and Graham Deveney (2) to move the Saints into second berth.
White Horse took a trip to Bradstone Rovers and returned with two points which doubled their tally for the season.
All the goals came in the first half, from Mark Pugh (2), Paul Phelps and Neil Shepherd for the visitors, and Alan Gordine and Andy Waller netting one each for the home side.
Classic, at home to KSM, also managed a similar feat in doubling their points from two to four, and scored four goals. Shane Rendell laid claim to the match ball with his hat-trick with the fourth from Glenn Timms. The only reply for KSM was by Martin Hill.
