A PLANNING application is expected within the next ten days or so to build Amesbury's long-awaited new Co-op supermarket.
The Co-op board of directors is meeting during November to finalise the planning bid for a flagship store on the Redworth House site in the centre of the town.
The news was given to Amesbury Town Council last week by mayor Major John Turner.
He told councillors he had had a meeting with Salisbury District Council officers and had learned that progress is being made to start the redevelopment of Ames-bury town centre.
Maj Turner said everyone would have to wait to see what the planning application comprised, but he hoped it would include everything Ames-bury councillors want.
The town council is adamant that the redevelopment must include:
a new superstore on the Redworth House site;
the relocation of the Tourist Information Centre, Citizens' Advice Bureau and district, town and county council sub-offices away from Redworth House to a new One Stop shop centre on the former Pitts Garage site;
the existing Co-op store remaining a retail outlet unconverted into offices.
