LATE-NIGHT Christmas shopping starts in Salisbury next Thursday when the Christmas lights are switched on in the Market Square at 7.30pm.
'Merry Christmas is here in Salisbury' is the theme of the city's festive shopping season this year, and this will continue, with late-night opening until 9pm on Thursdays and all-day shopping on Sundays, until December 23.
Thursday evening will begin with a carol service in the cathedral at 6pm, followed by a procession through the town to the Market Square, where crowds waiting for the light-up will be entertained by musician The Alchemist, the 80-strong Salisbury Community Choir, light jugglers and an aerialist.
