Bill Scott is correct in stating recycling is best carried out by means of kerbside collections. I have been arguing for this at the district council for 11 years. However, the new household recycling centres being established in Melksham, and soon in Trowbridge, will go a long way to raise the amount of waste recycled.

Hills have been operating their sites in Wiltshire for several years and have already met the government target for recycling 25 per cent of household waste. Far more widespread kerbside collections will come soon; they have to for councils to meet the 36 per cent and 40 per cent targets soon to be obligatory. The only reason kerbside recycling is not already with us is the cost. No new money is available from government for recycling. My real concern is those seeking the quick fix of incineration will persuade the county council to adopt this as the solution.
