FOOTBALLING legends Jimmy Greaves and Ian St John were guest speakers at a charity dinner in Trowbridge.
More than 300 guests packed the town's Civic Hall last Friday for the 10th Mencap dinner the charity's most successful event to date.
The men-only affair had to be relocated from Reflections nightclub because of the demand for tickets.
Saint and Greavsie, the 1980s TV pundit double act, were the after-roast-beef-dinner speakers, talking about their football exploits.
Former ace England and Spurs striker Jimmy Greaves then turned the clock back to take the glory in the table football competition.
Other VIP guests included Olympic rowing gold medallist, Rowley Douglas MBE, while Trowbridge town crier, Trevor Heeks was compere for the evening. An auction and raffle followed, to complete "a fantastic night", according to organiser Steve Pratt.
He said: "I was delighted with the response from the local business community, and we were able to raise over £4,000, which will be matched by Lloyds TSB, which is supporting Mencap this year."
Some of the money will go to Trowbridge's Christmas Lights, while the rest will go to Mencap for its community support.
