A nine month-old baby suffocated in his bunk bed when he got his head trapped beneath the side of his mattress and the ladder, an inquest was told.
Somehow, little Dylan Harper had wriggled in the bed so that his legs were hanging over the side with his head caught.
The inquest in Cirencester heard that his mother, Kirsty Gill, of Austin Road, Cirencester, released Dylan and called an ambulance but he could not be revived.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, Cotswold coroner Lester Maddrell said the bunk bed had been examined by experts and there was nothing wrong with it. It had been made to comply with all safety standards and regulations.
But he said the bunk was not really intended for such young babies and was made with older children in mind.
Dylan had only been put into the bunk bed about two weeks before the tragedy, having previously been in a cot.
