THE A419 has claimed its latest victim after an accident in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday).
A male pedestrian was struck by a Peugeot car on the dual carriageway between the Dorcan Industrial Estate and the Wanborough overbridge at 3.26am.
He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash investigators from Swindon Police believe that the man had been walking along the grass verge next to the dual carriageway and had stepped out in front of the car.
They were attempting to establish the man's identity, as he had nothing on him to give them any clues.
Sgt Richard Day, from Westlea traffic department, said: "We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the male pedestrian as he walked along the A419 or anyone who may have seen the actual collision."
Anyone with information should call Swindon Police on 528111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
The busy dual carriageway is becoming notorious for its accident record and has claimed numerous lives in recent years.
Wiltshire Coroner David Masters recently invoked rarely-used powers at the inquest of another victim to recommend to the Government that something should be done to make it safer.
The Highways Agency is currently consulting the public on how changes can be made all along the A419 as part of a 10-year road improvement strategy.
