A NEW dance night to be launched will have all the ingredients Swindon clubbers are used to.

Organisers pledge top DJs, brilliant MCs, a booming sound system, full club dcor and a live PA by guest performer.

The only difference is this night will be for the under 18s only. To be held at the Upper Room above the Savoy pub in Regent Street, The Zone is the only club night for Swindon teens at the weekend.

Behind the venture are three Swindon parents desperate to improve facilities for young people between the ages of 13 and 17 who live in the town.

Debbie Reeves, 22, from Stratton said: "Young people in Swindon end up getting into trouble because there is nothing at all for them to do at the weekends. We want to put some-thing back into the community by changing that and of course giving them a great night out."

Debbie, mother of three-year-old Hope, came up with the idea with friend Emile Noriega, 35, and Hope's father Lloyd Page, 36.

Emile has a teenage daughter, 13-year-old Katie, and two other children and Lloyd has a 15-year-old son called Marvin and daughter Rhina, five.

Debbie said: "Emile and Lloyd's teenagers were always com-plaining to them about being bored and I can remember what it was like being a teenager myself."

Together the three started a market research campaign to find out what the youth of today wanted and what their parents were prepared to permit.

They carried out more than 100 surveys at the Asda shopping centre in West Swindon last November.

"We found that 88 per cent of the parents we spoke to would allow their teenagers to a week-end party and even more youths said they would want to come," said Debbie.

The trio then set about finding a suitable location.

The first Zone night was held at Liden Community Centre last June. Though it was a success Debbie wanted a more central location.

Eventually they approached the Upper Room managers who agreed immediately.

Debbie said when she saw the room she nearly cried with joy.

"It's a beautiful venue with a huge stage and a chill out overlooking the main dance arena," she said.

The first Zone party will take place on Saturday, December 8, between 7pm and 11pm.

Youngsters will leave from a rear exit so they will not clash with pub-goers leaving The Savoy. Tickets priced £3 will be on sale every Saturday between 12pm and 5pm from outside the Upper Room.
