SANTA has traded his sleigh this year for one of the most famous cars in the world the Batmobile.

Old St Nick will arrive in style in the legendary vehicle at this year's Swindon Christmas Carnival on Sunday, November 25.

People will have the chance to sit inside Batman and Robin's famous car and pose for photographs. The Batmobile will be in town until 3pm under the canopy outside Debenhams. The car featured in the 1970s TV series starring Adam West and has since become a classic. It is worth around £250,000 and is privately owned.

Luke Skywalker, from Skywalkers fancy dress shop in Fleet Street, believes the design was based on a Cadillac.

He said: "This is going to be such a fantastic occasion and so much fun. Batman and Robin will be up front driving Father Christmas through the parade accompanied by the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman and Batgirl.

"We will then offer the public the chance to have their photos taken by a professional photographer inside the Batmobile, which will only cost a few pounds. The first 50 kids who have their picture taken in the car will be given a free Batman toy worth £6.99. This is going to turn everyone's heads. It's going to be spectacular."

Luke, who will be taking the part of Batman, will have to undergo a three-hour driving lesson before he can take to the wheel.
