DANNY INVINCIBLE was delighted to end a dry spell of five games without a goal.

The 22-year-old Aussie was in the right place to stab home Town's second goal in the 3-1 win over Hartlepool United.

It was his fourth goal of the campaign and gave Town a 2-0 lead over the Third Division side.

However, he was more than happy to stand aside when Razor Ruddock decided there was only one man for spot kick duty - himself.

Invincible said: "It was nice to get back on the scoresheet after the disappointment of last week.

"I suppose it was almost inevitable that we'd get a penalty after what happened at Blackpool.

"But Razor just pushed me out of the way and said this isn't the time to redeem yourself, it's mine.

"He tucked it away well but I'm more than happy just to have netted again.

"When Eric (Sabin) got the ball I was on the halfway line and just sprinted as fast as I could to the far post.

"I guess it was a bit lucky that the ball came off the keeper but you have to be there to stick the ball in, however simple the chance."

Invincible felt Town had been adequate in the first half but admitted the second half had been a real slog.

He said: "We just couldn't get going at all. Our passing wasn't great, they had a few chances and it was lucky that we got the third to give us a comfort zone."

The former Marconi Stallions man has become used to being utilised in a variety of positions.

He joked that the place he probably hadn't been considered for was goalkeeper.

But you won't find him complaining.

He said: "The gaffer told me I was playing in midfield.

"He told me to get forward, support the strikers and shoot when I got the chance. I also tracked back as much as I could to help in defence.

"Obviously I've enjoyed the freedom of playing up front and I think Graz and I have done alright as a partnership.

"But we have had problems with injuries and suspensions and you have to be able to adapt to the situation.

"As long as I'm playing, then I'm happy. But I'm never happier than when I'm scoring goals and the team is winning.

"Hopefully we can now go on and put together a decent run in the FA Cup. If you get through the early rounds there is always the chance of drawing a big club. That happened last year when we played Coventry."

The winner of Saturday's Evening Advertiser 50-50 draw was Greg Taylor of Stratton.
