THERE have been some excellent European Directives that have ensured this country has to make some attempt to improve its waste reduction targets.
In comparison to the rest of Europe, Britain is virtually bottom of the recycling table.
Unlike Michael Morton (Evening Advertiser, November 15) I believe that it is only right that those who are responsible for creating waste should pay for recycling and try to recycle, re-use and make longer lasting products.
This is a positive move in what is a wasteful society.
Mr Morton bemoans the fact that Rover might have to spend £100 million to recycle cars.
If it takes a financial penalty to make this happen, then people can't say they weren't warned.
We have known for long enough that we must put an end to the environmental damage caused by mineral extraction, resource use and disposal.
