SOME days ago a reader wrote to you regarding the proposed building of a large number of houses on the land between Swindon and Wroughton and described it as totally unnecessary, with which I fully agree.
There are more houses here now than the services can support.
Apart from that there are a huge number of empty houses on the council estates and many private ones that are for sale.
The trouble is, in my view, many seem to want new houses when they move, adding to the fiasco.
This town has grown too big too quickly and needs to be consolidated.
Then there is the case of maintenance, of which the council has made a poor job of the existing town.
In places it is filthy and the only place with a semblance of upkeep is the Town Centre.
We also read almost every day about the council's financial troubles and now more are being advocated!
I maintain that they want to get the existing town in a shipshape condition before making more troubles.
