CHURCH REVIEW: Type of worship: Church of England
History: A fine example of Bath's Georgian period.
Congregation: About 100 people the pews were not stuffed with worshippers but this is a fairly boxy church so 100 was just the right amount.
Who took the service?: The Church's Rector, the Rev Martin Lloyd Williams, led the proceedings while various members of the congregation stood up to give out notices or to read passages.
Decor: Neither gaudy nor plain, St Michael with St Paul is pleasantly simple with a beautiful ceiling and the usual array of plaques and stained-glass windows.
Welcome: Today's service offered, for this reporter, the most comfortable welcome he had ever received at a place of worship. The congregation consisted of a mixture of all ages, the service was relaxed and lacking in ceremonial pomp and no-one came over as pushy.
Length of service: The service began at 10.30am and lasted a good 90 minutes.
Style of service: Very relaxed with a strong human touch. The hymns sounded more like pop songs, being backed by a great sounding band, while the sermons strayed from Bible lessons to general discussions of faith.
Dress: There seemed no pressure to dress in a certain way.
Anything to make you wince?: Not a thing.
Final Judgment: a genuine feeling of community: this is religion without the fire and brimstone.
