NIGHTCLUB doorman John Heap carried a stun gun in his car for personal protection, magistrates heard.
Heap, 40, of Wood Lane, Chippenham, pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon when he appeared before North Wiltshire magistrates in Chippenham on Monday.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of £30 worth of cannabis and cannabis resin, discovered by police during a search of his home on November 8.
Sentencing has been adjourned until December 10, when magistrates said they are considering imposing a community penalty.
Michael Wills, defending, asked for the adjournment so he could make more enquiries.
He said Heap worked as a doorman in Bristol.
"The stun gun was for his own protection, it has never, ever been taken out of the car but there are times when he fears for his own security," said Mr Wills.
"He feels there are occasions with a particular group of individuals when he could be in danger."
Mr Wills said he wanted to investigate some individuals in the Bristol area.
"I want to know why this particular piece of equipment was in his car," added Mr Wills.
Prosecution has applied for £118 costs and the destruction of the cannabis and resin.
