PUPILS at two North Wiltshire primary schools have been getting ahead in history thanks to art.
The youngsters at Crudwell School and Minety School spent last week making headdresses with the help of visiting artists Alison Cockcroft and Shelley Campbell.
Ms Cockcroft guided the pupils at Crudwell in creating Egyptian-style headdresses, while Ms Campbell was down the road at Minety helping pupils fashion Roman-style headdresses.
Sue Cole, secretary at Crudwell, said the artist in residence scheme had worked well because both schools had shared the cost.
"The pupils have had a really busy week but appear to have thoroughly enjoyed it," said Mrs Cole.
Twenty-six eight and nine-year-olds at Crudwell designed and made their headdresses from willow and tissue paper.
The two schools joined together last Friday for an assembly and to show off their work.
"The classroom at some points looked particularly untidy, but the pupils were very busy creating wonderful headdresses," said Mrs Cole.
"The project has really helped our pupils and those at Minety. It has been very good fun." The headdresses will be displayed at each school.
