HARRY Potter star Adam Shipman, from Lacock, was putting his magic skills to the test with his classmates last week.

Adam, 11, a pupil at Lacock Primary School, was one of nine pupils from the school who had roles in the blockbuster film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Eight of the pupils are now at secondary school but remaining pupil, Adam, who appears in the film in the potions room making a special spell, was showing his classmates his magic skills at the school's Harry Potter day.

The school was transformed into Hogwarts, with staff and pupils dressing as wizards, Harry Potter and even three-headed dogs. There was a sorting hat ceremony, potions, owl-making, cooking and art.

The 52 pupils were put into the four Hogwarts houses and they all had a variety of wizardry lessons.

Parents supported the staff in their efforts to transform the village school. Many gave up their spare time to decorate and to build props.

Villagers also enjoyed a special viewing of the Harry Potter film.

More than 200 Lacock residents filled Chippenham's Astoria cinema on Saturday to see village locations used in the hit film.

Lacock Abbey cloisters were transformed into classrooms, where Harry, Hermione and their classmates learn the art of magic.

The Friends of Lacock Church arranged the special viewing to raise funds for the church roof.

Astoria manager Brenda Gingell said she had cleared the plan with Warner Brothers.

The 200-seat auditorium was full to capacity and one little boy turned up in Harry Potter costume to see the film.

The Friends' chairman, Richard Searight, said: "It was brilliant. The tickets for the viewing sold out in three hours and we raised £864 for the church roof."

He said the film was very well received by residents.

"It is a magnificent film," he said. "They put in lots of brilliant Lacock interiors."

He said Warner Brothers is planning to use the village as a location again when filming for the second Harry Potter film begins.
