FA COUNTY FLOODLIGHT LEAGUE: DEVIZES Town put up a superb all round performance to defeat second placed Calne in the Wiltshire FA County Floodlight League at Bremhill View.
In what was always going to be a closely fought contest, Devizes made the brighter openings, with Marcus Wallen just failing to lob the Calne goalkeeper. They took the lead on 31 minutes when Ashton Turner lashed in from a tight angle following a solo run.
Calne were thrown a lifeline when, to the amazement of both players and spectators, the referee awarded a penalty to the home side which was duly converted early in the second half.
It looked as if the game was going to end in a 1-1 draw until Devizes introduced three substitutions and it was one of those, Ben Bridewell, who scored with five minutes remaining with a superb finish following a slide rule pass from Steve Sartin had put him clear.
Two minutes later Devizes sealed victory through Justin Lisle with another great finish.
The win puts Devizes in third place, three points behind Calne with a game in hand.
Devizes entertain Wootton Bassett at Nursteed Road on November 28, kick off 7.30pm.
