HARRY Potter may be the current favourite book character for both children and adults but an old favourite like 007 still gets a look in at a school dressing up day.
The highlight of a book week held at St Michael's School in Aldbourne in conjunction with the Aldbourne Children's Book Group, was the opportunity last Friday to dress up as a favourite book character.
Harry Potter characters outnumbered James Bond five to one. Other favourites depicted by the children included Percy the Park Keeper, Rapunzel, Snowman, the spider from Charlotte's Webb, and Cruella de Ville from 101 Dalmations.
Children took part in competitions to design a book cover and also wrote poetry.
There were two visiting authors, Australian children's writer David Caddy, who has taken time out from his teaching job to travel across Britain promoting his latest book, and local author Sindy Jefferies whose new book mentions the enigmatic Avebury stone circles.
In March next year the Aldbourne Children's Book Group and the Oxfordshire Children's Book Group are together organising the Federation of Children's Book Groups annual conference, which will be held at Marlborough College.
