DEVIZES county councillor Margaret Taylor has voiced concerns about the reasoning behind the new electric blue bus shelters which are springing up all over town.

Mrs Taylor said she was particularly concerned about the shelter outside KwikFit near the Green. She said: "It is far too close to the junction. If a bus is stopped there traffic wanting to turn left will have to move into the right hand lane and then try to get back again once past the bus. It will cause absolute chaos at busy times."

Mrs Taylor is also concerned about the vibrant colour used for the shelters. She said: "I was horrified to find that no councillors had been involved in the choice of colour. Some of these shelters are in the town conservation area. The decision was made by county council officers and people from the contractors, Ringway Parkman."

Mrs Taylor was told more shelters were planned along London Road as well as at other locations in town.

She has put a number of questions to Ringway Parkman and is to receive a written answer soon.

She has already managed to get the contractor to donate two trees to replace two sycamores removed from Estcourt Street during the recent road and pavement works. They will be planted at locations decided by the town council.
