ROY EVANS made little effort to conceal his anger after Town's woeful showing at Loftus Road.

The director of football said his side had paid the price for a 'pathetic' start and had made QPR look like a very good side.

He said: "It just wasn't good enough in the first half. It improved slightly after the break, but then it had to."

Evans refused to divulge what exactly was said at half time but 'enough' spoke volumes for his assessment of the situation.

He said: "We improved all parts of our game to some degree in the second period and if we'd started the first half in the same way then we might have got something out of the game.

"But on the day we didn't deserve anything.

"We made them look like a good team. Credit to them for taking their chances but we never put them under pressure at any time during the game.

"We played like a poor side because good sides defend much better than we did against Rangers."

The director of football said he was angry with the way his players had gifted away goals.

He said: "Teams will create chances but you cannot afford to present them with opportunities."

The only consolation for Evans on the night was the noisy Town following.

He said: "The fans were fantastic and kept us going until the end."

Player-coach Neil Ruddock shouldered his share of the blame for the defensive debacle at Loftus Road.

He said: "It was men against boys in the opening 10 minutes. We have to learn to defend much better.

"I was rubbish in that spell and we gave ourselves a huge uphill battle."

Defender Andy Gurney said: "As a back three, we were all over the place and when you give a team a three-goal start then you've no chance of getting back.

"We had a better spell of possession in the second hand but it was too little too late."

Midfielder Steve Robinson was utterly choked at full time.

He said: "I just can't my head round it, to be honest.

"Two down after 10 minutes and you can't quite believe it. But we're professionals, we have to pick ourselves up."

Matt Hewlett felt for the Town fans who endured a terrible opening first half.

He said: "I don't think you could have blamed them if they'd decided to leave at half time. We just didn't produce in the way we know we can."
