I was very pleased to read that the council has decided to take responsibility for the management of parking enforcement.
Enforcing the law as established in the Road Traffic Act was clearly beyond the capabilities of senior police officers.
They had decided it was too much trouble, gave up and mouthed platitudes such as "we can spend more time on solving real crime."
I do hope it won't take 18 months to develop a scheme on how to manage the service. After all the council has had the best part of five years to think this through.
It never ceases to amaze me that when in opposition, political parties know all the answers and have all the solutions to the problems.
Come the day to translate fine words into practical deeds what happens out come excuses for not doing things.
Rather than have a period of inertia, let's see some positive action to rid the congestion and inconvenience caused by illegally parked vehicles on our streets and pavements.
But whatever happens for goodness sake don't let W S Atkins near the problem.
