WOOTTON Bassett racked up 29 points in each half as they dominated their Southern Counties South league encounter against a poor Ivel Barbarians outfit.
The win lifts Bassett into third place in the table and continues their promotion challenge.
The home side started strongly, but it was Ivel who took the lead from a penalty after 15 minutes. Bassett replied almost straight from the restart following a line-out five metres from the line. Bassett won their ball and drove on for prop Dave Mason to score their first points of the afternoon. The rampaging prop was again on then scoresheet moments later, ripping the ball from a maul and sprinting 20 metres to score an unconverted try.
After a good break from centre Lee Davies, winger Craig Smith was put away to round his opposite number and score in the corner. Young winger David Parker converted from the touchline.
Bassett scored two quick tries in the final minutes of the opening half. The first came from Davies and was converted by Parker and the second from hooker Andrew Lock after some very quick handling allowed him to go over in the corner.
There was no respite for the visitors in the second period and scrum half Mike Weeks went over shortly after the restart after some good work by the Bassett pack.
Ivel missed touch with a clearance kick from within their own 22, Bassett's full back Simon Cady caught the ball and set off beating several opponents before passing to winger Smith who raced over to score and put Bassett into a 39-3 lead.
Bassett totally dominated the last quarter and scored three more tries through captain Davies, number eight Ian McLellan and Parker.
