I WRITE in reply to Mrs Oliver's letter (Wiltshire Times November 16) Is this the way to show respect? It has left me shocked and angry.
I would like to put the record straight with regard to the players of Trowbridge Town Colts and Atworth United, who were the football teams accused of a lack of respect. All players, supporters and match officials held a two-minute silence around the centre circle of the Southwick playing field at 10.45am prior to the match commencing. I am fully aware of the sacrifices made by our countrymen and women in the conflicts mentioned. The match was in progress during the Cenotaph two-minute silence, but the accusation that persons involved show a lack of respect is completely without foundation. The playing field was paid for by donations to commemorate the home-coming of our troops; its continued use is testimony to their sacrifice.
