TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: BROUGHTON Gifford's two sides had mixed fortunes in the preliminary round of the Knockout Cup (sponsored by DL Windows and Conservatories of Chippenham).
Broughton's first team travelled to Rudloe, where the home side fought very hard before going out 4-1. The visitors scored four excellent goals, through Chris Stiles (2) and Dave Welch in the first half and Paul Rendell after the break. Martin Jenks pulled a goal back for Rudloe to make the score 3-1.
Broughton's second string went to Castle Combe for a cup replay. The home side made no mistake this time, winning 6-0 with goals from Jamie Winks (3), Andy Ponting and Shaun House (2).
In a delayed first round A and B cup tie (sponsored by Just Signs Trowbridge) Bratton just edged out Frome Sportshouse by 2-1. Marc Lanfear opened the scoring after 39 minutes when he burst through the defence to round the goalkeeper. Earlier Lanfear had squandered two golden chances.
Sportshouse were level five minutes later as Damien Mead shot through the hands of stand-in keeper Kerry Wilson. Lanfear got the winners after the Frome goalkeeper had dropped a corner.
In Division One of the league (sponsored by Premier Training and Development) Bradford Town Reserves recorded their first win of the season against Seend United. Steve Morris got the only goal of the game after five minutes to lift Town off the bottom of the table.
Heytesbury now go bottom despite collecting a point from a 2-2 draw with Bradford Sports. Sports took a 2-0 lead through Andy Bennett and Mike Spong. Heytesbury's Mark James proved a real handful for Bradford's defence and he scored twice before the break.
The Deverills put on a polished performance in beating Dursley Arms 6-0. Scott Laidlaw (3), Darren Munro, Oliver Worts and Scott Gallazi shared the goals.
In Division Two Trowbridge Town Reserves extended their lead at the top with a 7-1 win over Hilperton United. Town raced into a 4-0 lead through Dave Percival, Steve Jackson, Waleed Bakali and Luke Turvey. Steve Lewin pulled a goal back for United before half-time. Second half goals from Chris Tricker, Percival and Jackson sealed victory.
Jamie Bradley put Blue Circle 1-0 up at Steeple Ashton after 40 minutes. Ashton responded immediately with Andy Harding getting a quick equaliser. After the break Graham Kirk put Circle back in front. Ashton were soon level through Simon Hodges but then conceded the winner to Liam Williams 15 minutes from time.
Castle Combe Reserves were strengthened by first team players returning after injury at Foresters Arms in Division Three. James Pope put Combe ahead before the interval with Jeremy Curtis equalising to give Arms a point.
Deverills Reserves maintained their lead at the top with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Apetito. Simon Mead (2) and Paul Clarke got the goals in the first half.
Premier Rovers were outgunned at home to Westbury United A. Lee Hayward opened the scoring for United, with Dean Gumm getting Rovers level for a time. The floodgates then opened as United scored seven times through Mark Collier (3), Sam Tucker, Garic Hopkins, Steve Bruce and Andy Craig. Shaun Southern got Rovers' second goal to make the score-line 6-2.
Kevin Bainton twice put Seend United Reserves in front against Bradford Utd 201. Darren Brewer got United level with Neil Mitchell getting an equaliser on 85 minutes. Seend could have wrapped up the points if Rob O'Harrow had converted a penalty at 2-1.
Steve Hunt got both King Alfred FC goals in the first half at Bromham Reserves. The home side improved in the last 20 minutes and pulled a goal back through Kelham Shearing.
