PEOPLE are continuing to feed pigeons in Trowbridge town centre despite warnings they carry disease.
As well as the threat of the germs, the pigeons are leaving a mess that affects shoppers and traders in the town.
And the long-running problem seems no nearer to a solution.
Trowbridge town clerk, Doug Ross, said: "We have someone who sweeps up, but people are also putting down food.
"The only way we can stop them is to ask West Wiltshire District Council to bring a prosecution, which we want to avoid."
Last year a suggestion by the town council that marksmen be hired to cull the birds was met with public outcry.
Bringing in a hawk to scare them away and trying to starve them out of the town were other suggestions considered.
The council has since been trying to discourage people from feeding the birds alongside clearing up food left on the streets.
Mr Ross said: "People just aren't taking any notice. When we put up signs they are taken down.
"It is an on-going problem and there is no immediate solution."
