THE DEATH of a one-month-old baby in Trowbridge has left a family in tatters.
Baby Joshua Neil Baker, of Westfield Close, was rushed to hospital on Sunday morning (November 18) but there was nothing doctors could do to save his life.
John Baker, 18, and Carrie Hannaford, 17, noticed their new-born baby son wasn't breathing when they went to his cot at 6am.
Grandparents Ian and Caroline Baker, who live next door, were alerted and Joshua was rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Born a week early, Joshua had been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and was due to see a hospital specialist this week.
A post-mortem examination was being held this week.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene and detectives confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Joshua's death.
Grandparents Ian and Caroline Baker said the family have been destroyed by the infant's death and were preparing to face their grief at his funeral today.
Mr Baker, 42, said he had only held his beloved first grandson once.
He said: "We can't believe it has happened. I have held him once and he was so sweet. The funeral will be a hard day and I think it will really hit everyone."
Step-grandmother Mrs Baker, 39, said she knows what the couple are going through.
"I can offer them support and help but I can't believe this has happened."
Miss Hannaford and Mr Baker first met at John of Gaunt School. The funeral is still to be arranged but is expected to be held at Semington Crematorium.
