HONDA has been named Britain's most reliable car maker.

The Accord is the top company car, with the Civic also in the top 10, says a survey by Fleet News.

The research, involving 620,000 vehicles run by leasing companies, finds that the Swindon-built cars are among the least likely to cause trouble.

The survey listed vehicles according to the lowest number of breakdowns. The magazine's managing editor Jonathon Manning said: "Top place for the Honda provides a welcome boost for British manufacturing."

The top 10, in order of most reliable models, shows that Japanese marques can beat the 'style favourites' from BMW, Audi and Volkswagen. The list is:

Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, Lexus IS200, VW Passat, BMW 3 Series, Toyota Corolla, Audi A4, Honda Civic, VW Golf, Nissan Primera.

Ironically, the list does not include the two leading choices for company cars, Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra.

RENAULT has ousted Peugeot as No 3 maker in the UK sales figures.

The latest figures, for October, show Renault took almost 10 per cent of the market, with the new Clio and Scenic featuring strongly.
