Highworth Town picked up another three valuable Premier Division points when they defeated fellow strugglers Almondsbury Town 3-0 on their own ground.

Brimming with confidence after their success over Didcot last week, Highworth looked much the better side in a goalless first half with goal chances falling to Warren Fuller, Peter Moss and Wayne Cleverley.

After the break the Wiltshire side continued to dominate the game, and ten minutes into the half Fuller was on hand to open the scoring after a good ball in from the right.

The Almondsbury keeper then made a series of good saves before Wayne Cleverely added a second on 78 minutes, followed by a third five minutes from time.

Highworth boss Chris Seagraves was delighted with the victory. "I think we must have had 26 attempts at goal and completely dominated the game. Hopefully I think we may have turned the corner."

Wootton Bassett did well to pick up a point at Carterton in a no score draw, although they had to survive a hectic opening quarter of an hour in which defender Luke Sharpe cleared off the line and Carterton striker Dean Moss scraped the bar and hit a post.

Bassett regained their composure midway through the half and a couple of minutes before the break a shot from Bassett's Stuart Lemont looked goal bound but struck a Carterton defender on the line.

Fairford Town moved up a place to fourth spot after their 2-0 win over Southall Town. Richard Watkins netted on the half hour to give the Cinder Lane side the lead and stalwart John Hathaway scored a second midway through the second half.

League leaders North Leigh scored the only goal of the game at Tuffley and second in the table Yate Town brought their goals for tally to 49 after beating Cirencester Academy 4-0.

In Division 1 leaders Hook Norton were beaten for the first time losing 3-0 at home to Yardley United.

Second-placed Purton were unable to take advantage however because they were beaten 4-2 at Winterbourne.

The home side raced to a three goal lead in the first 35 minutes with two goals from Elvins and one from Moxham.

Purton pulled a goal back from the penalty spot five minutes before the break, Martin Thompson taking the kick after a home defender had handled in the area. Almost immediately the home side struck again through Rhodes to give them a 4-1 interval lead.

Manager Alan Clarke then rang the changes during the interval and Purton looked more comfortable against the home side's direct approach in the second half.

Purton pulled a goal back through David Webb, but failed to add to their total.

Paul Day was the Pewsey Vale hero, netting a hat-trick in their 5-1 win over bottom club Letcombe. Anderson and Ritchie added further goals. with Rees scoring a consolation for the visitors.

After a slow start Shrivenham are beginning to climb the table and ran out easy 5-1 winners away to Malmesbury Vics. Green, Sutton, Peters, Pugh and Lake were on target for Shrivenham with Griffi, scoring a consolation for the Vics.

Fairford Town's top scorer Lee Stoddart features in the top six scorers in Hellenic League and cup games. Top marksman is Kevin Slack with 22 goals. Ben Spiero of Wantage Town is on the 21 mark. Others: Lee Stoddart 17, Julian Freeman (Gloucester United), and Carl Henry (Abingdon) with 13.

Hellenic Premier team of the month was Fairford, and Division 1 West winners were Shrivenham with Purton in third place.
