THE Steam museum is celebrating its latest accolade Loo of the Year.

Sponsored by washroom products supplier Cannon Hygiene, the awards are run in conjunction with organisations, including the British Toilet Association.

Steam is the current holder of the Wiltshire Family Attraction of the Year Award, sponsored by the Good Britain Guide.

Marketing manager Emma Valentine said the latest award showed the importance of making sure all facilities not just the museum exhibits impressed visitors.

She explained: "There are some attractions at which a great deal of money has been put into the various gizmos on display, but not as much care has been put into the toilet facilities.

"But nowadays, people want to have a quality service, with baby changing facilities and facilities for disabled people.

"An attraction like Steam is dependent on word of mouth, on people telling friends and family what sort of time they had here." Ms Valentine also praised the efforts of cleaning staff.

Steam won the Individual Local Authority category of the Loo of the Year awards, which recognise design, maintenance and quality of facilities in places ranging from tourist attractions to pubs.

Cannon Hygiene managing director Oliver Weisflog said: "It is clear that there are a rapidly rising number of organisations which realise that first class toilet facilities are an integral part of the overall customer package."
