ROY EVANS felt Town had more than held their own against the Seagulls and were full value for the draw.

The director of football had demanded a 100 per cent improvement on the showing at Loftus Road and felt his players had bounced back in a positive manner.

He said: "We created chances which could even have won it for us but to recover from going one-down against the league leaders is very pleasing.

"You would expect Brighton to start confidently given their position but after conceding the goal we didn't capitulate and throw the towel in.

"I think we lost a bit of a freak goal to be honest. The ball moved in the air, beat everybody and Zamora's got on the end of it."

Evans was pleased that his side had continued their healthy habit of performing better against the better sides.

He said: "We have proved this year that we have played better stuff against the decent sides in the division.

"I thought we contained Brighton pretty well and restricted them to relatively few chances.

"It was a good contest and a point is pretty valuable.

"All the lads pulled their weight but then you cannot afford to carry anyone in this game.

"The lads rolled their sleeves up and showed me, the supporters and themselves just what they are capable of."

Evans was delighted to see Eric Sabin finally get off the mark and open his County Ground account.

He said: "Wayne Carlisle got in a great cross and Eric's got on the end of it.

"It was great for the team in getting us level but everyone is pleased for Eric to get going."

The director of football was happy to see his side creating chances once again, having barely had a sniff of goal at Loftus Road.

He said: "Quite simply, we played on this occasion. We've performed as a unit. I thought we actually got better after going the goal behind.

"At the break I told the players that if they carried on playing in the way they ended the half that they'd go on to win the game."

The day before the match Evans had admitted he'd been down to the bare bones.

"Without going into the kids, there was only Juan Cobian of the senior pro's who didn't make the bench."

Evans said the point was desperately important in ending a three-game losing streak in the league.

He said: "We need to start winning games and climbing into a position of greater safety."

The winner of the Evening Advertiser-sponsored 50-50 draw worth £305 at the Brighton game was B Carter of Wantage with ticket number 140.
