SINCE arriving from Crystal Palace,Wayne Carlisle has provided Town's midfield with the attacking menace which has really been missing.

Steve Robinson and Matt Hewlett are hard working, battling players but neither has really offered too much in the final third of the field.

That is not out of any reluctance to cause damage, as both have demonstrated that they are not afraid to shoot. But in 19 league games they have mustered just one goal between them.

Carlisle wasted little time in coming up trumps, thumping home a tremendous goal on his full debut at Wycombe.

That was a spectacular strike from open play but the Northern Ireland man has also provided a glimpse of his potential from free kicks.

While Razor Ruddock is the obvious option for the powerful thump towards goal, Carlisle has a touch more bend on his efforts.

He whipped one effort just wide against Brighton and was not too far away in the recent defeat at Blackpool.

Town have struggled to create chances in recent games but Carlisle came up trumps against the Seagulls.

He created space on the left before arrowing a terrific low cross for Eric Sabin to stab home his first Town goal.

Goals have been something of a problem at the County Ground this season and Carlisle could be the man with the key to unlock visiting defences.

A solid start to his Town career and must look to build on it with further quality displays in the coming weeks.
