IT IS understandable that the seriously ill want any means possible to get well (Evening Advertiser, November 20).

However, the organisation Seriously Ill Against Animal Experiments has looked further into the issue, listening to both sides of the argument, and has realised that animal experimentation is not the answer.

More than three million animals are killed every year in British laboratories. It is claimed that these experiments will lead to cures for human diseases and save lives, but the fact is that there are many doctors and scientists worldwide campaigning for the abolition of animal experiments because of the damage done to humans by drugs 'safety-tested' on animals.

There are many far more accurate and reliable methods of research than crude animal tests.

Whether you have religious beliefs or not, torturing and killing animals for money, which is what it comes down to, can not be justified.
