AN AMAZING golden Labrador who saved the life of his disabled owner was given an award in Swindon.

Endal and his owner Allen Parton visited the Mobility and General Information Centre (Magic) to accept a £2,500 donation to the charity Canine Partners for Independence.

Endal achieved celebrity status after his Gulf War veteran owner Allen was knocked out of his wheelchair by a speeding car in Birmingham.

Incredibly, Endal placed Allen in the recovery position, retrieved his owner's mobile phone, allowing him to call for help, and then rushed off to raise the alarm.

Endal refused to leave Allen's side while he was taken to hospital in an ambulance and remained with him while he was treated.

Spokeswoman for Magic, Sue Lindsay, said: "Not only do dogs like Endal offer their disabled owners practical help, they are also an important source of emotional support and companionship.

"The pets provide disabled people with a vital link to the outside world because owners must leave the relative isolation of their homes to walk their dogs.

"These pets act like social icebreakers and can help their owners to meet and talk to new people and generally give them a reason for getting up in the morning."

Magic is the Ford Motor Company's free telephone information service for disabled and elderly motorists.
