BATH people over the age of 50 are being given the chance to get to grips with the internet thanks to the launch of an information technology club.
Starting today, the Silver Surfer Club will meet every Wednesday afternoon at the Pitman Training Centre on South Parade, where wannabe web wizards will get the opportunity to question experts about the internet and choose to sign up for a free three-hour taster session.
The club, which meets from 2.30 to 4.30pm, promises a relaxed environment, cups of tea and simple lessons on how to use the internet and how to send and receive e-mails.
The firm behind the scheme, Acadecom Training Limited says the taster session can be taken at any time to suit the individual.
The firm says that if people like what they see in the taster session, then they can choose to sign up for a full 10-hour course, costing £100.
Pensioner, Miss Anne Wolsey, 67, who has just completed a course at the centre said that older people should turn up if only to see what the internet is all about.
