Covingham youngster Adrian Adams is keeping his fingers crossed and hoping to come off the subs' bench for Forest Green Rovers in their replayed FA Cup tie with Macclesfield tonight.

The 17-year-old was sub for the Conference side in a 2-2 draw last week but failed to get the nod.

"I'm not sure I will even be on the bench, that's up to manager Nigel Spink," said Adams.

"It would be great if I did get a chance though. I made a couple of sub appearances early in the season and had a full start against Nuneaton and Southport in Conference League games.

"I played up front against Nuneaton, my preferred position, and centre midfield in the Southport game. I don't mind where I play as long as I get on though."

A student at New College, Swindon, Adams had an important game last Saturday when he played for the South West of England against the South East in an England Under 18 Schoolboys full trial at Newbury.

He will have to wait until later in the week to see if he has been selected for the England squad.

Despite losing 3-0 the youngster said: "I really enjoyed the game, and just hope I did enough to get selected."

He explained: "I attended a week's long trial at Keele University in the summer and this was the second stage of the trial. It would be great to make the final squad.

"Obviously I would like to become a pro footballer like most youngsters, I think you have to work hard at it and hopefully get a few breaks.

"I have been fortunate so far at Forest Green where I am sponsored for travelling expenses etc by the Stroud-based Warwick Car Company. This helps with training and going to matches."
