TWO men indecently assaulted a woman who was waiting for a taxi in the town centre.
The woman was standing at the rear of O'Neills public house in Fleet Street at 1.30am on Saturday, when the men started talking to her. They assaulted her but ran off when they were disturbed by two men who shouted at them.
The 24-year-old woman was unhurt but was shocked by her ordeal. Police today appealed for witnesses. Both suspects were white and aged between 26 or 27.
One was of medium build, of average height, with short brown curtain-style hair.
He was talking to a woman prior to the attack who appeared to know him and who got into a taxi and left the scene.
The other suspect was stocky, of average height with short blond hair and blue eyes. He had a blackened left eye and was wearing a blue shirt. Police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said: "We are anxious to hear from anyone with information, in particular the woman who left in a taxi and the two men who came to the aid of the victim."
Witnesses should call PC Jamie Wallis on 528111 or call Crime-stoppers on 0800 555111.
