A JEWELLER'S has been honoured for its contribution to a town centre's environment.
Wootton Bassett Civic Trust's plaque for 2001 was given to Deacon and Son, for the business which made the greatest improvement to the environment.
The firm moved its Wootton Bassett branch from 128 to 42 High Street earlier this year.
Deacons director Ray Bilton thanked the Civic Trust and said the honours was appreciated by everyone involved in the business.
Civic Trust President Dr Nick Yerbury said: "We are very pleased that Deacon and Son are remaining in the town, in their very attractive new premises. It is a great fillip for Wootton Bassett to have a firm of their quality in the High Street.''
The trust held its annual meeting last week at New Court. Dr Yerbury reviewed a year in which the committee has looked at many relevant planning applications and has forwarded appropriate comments to the local authority.
The Civic Trust has requested the Town Council to improve pavements and to attend to overgrown bushes, weeds and public benches which require repair.
Dr Yerbury was re-elected President. John Perry is chairman and Mary Harrison is membership secretary. Doris Ballinger and Joan Gardner complete the committee.
