Screwfix Direct League: Dave Kilmurray struck a late winner as Corsham returned to winning ways with victory over promotion-chasing Bitton at The Southbank on Saturday.

The victory lifts Corsham up to fifth in the First Division table and avenged their early-season 3-1 away defeat at the hands of the Bristol side.

Bitton went into the clash in fourth place following a fine recent run and took the lead through Mick Burns on 20 minutes.

The home side equalised ten minutes later through top scorer Matt Pratley. A free kick was headed goalwards by John Freegard and Pratley was on hand to nod home his fifth goal in as many games from close range.

Corsham dominated the midfield battle in the second period and were duly rewarded two minutes from time when Kilmurray latched onto a header from Steve Davis and netted after his first effort had been parried by the visiting goalkeeper.

Home manager Mark Godley was delighted with Kilmurray's role in the victory.

He said: "I was really pleased for him, he worked exceptionally hard on the day. Dave was given a specific role to keep an eye on their playmaker Brendan King and his did it to perfection.

"I suppose he was destined to score in a way and it was nice for him because John Freegard and Matt Pratley have been getting all the headlines recently.

"But the other ten or 12 lads were equally as good and it was a good result.

Corsham meet Shepton Mallet at The Southbank for the second time in two weeks in the first round of the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday.

Said Godley: "I would love the club to have a run in the Les Phillips Cup and it would be a good experience for our lads to get one of the Premier Division clubs at home if we can beat Shepton."
