A floodlight failure at Hardenhuish Park last night completed a miserable 24 hours for Chippenham Town.

The Bluebirds were 1-0 up against title rivals Clevedon Town when the game was abandoned due to the 22nd minute blackout.

Simon Charity had put Chippenham ahead after just five minutes when Clevedon goalkeeper Jason Matthews had mis-kicked a clearance straight to the midfielder.

But with Tommy Saunders' men in the ascendancy, referee Lee Probert had no choice but to haul the teams off when the majority of the stadium's lights suddenly failed.

The incident came fresh on the back of the news that the Bluebirds would lose three points and the league leadership as a result of Bloxwich United's withdrawal from the Dr Martens League.

Town now occupy second, and this current set-back denied them the chance to regain top spot.
