FITNESS fanatics at Blacklands Leisure Club kept a treadmill going through the entire night to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The fun started at noon on Saturday, with paramedic Richard Miller and the Gazette's sales and marketing manager, Amber Edenbrow, taking the first strides.

They were followed by some 80 health club staff and members. Some contributed a ten-minute walk, while others ran for an hour.

It wasn't until noon on Sunday that the machine was switched off.

Fitness instructor Fitz Jacobs broke the event's record by running more than 25km in two hours.

One of the health club members also ran for an impressive 12 km.

Some people even came in their pyjamas to make sure there wasn't a break in the middle of the night.

Staff hope to have raised more than £1,000 for the air ambulance, a cause they also supported with fundraising activities last year.

Helen Rowsell of Blacklands said: "It was very much an all-age event. We had teenagers and we had OAPs who got on to walk for ten minutes or so. It was a good team effort."

She said the air ambulance always attracted a good response.

Last year, the club held a similar sponsored event using cross training machines.
