TWO new faces at Calne Police station will soon be making life easier and safer for residents.
PC Windsor Woon, a new bobby on the beat for Calne, will be doing his patrols with a difference on a pushbike.
And Sarah Hicks will be a friendly face for the public in her new role as the station's first dedicated inquiry desk officer. It means the station will now be manned from 1pm - 3pm Monday to Friday.
PC Woon said as well as being environmentally friendly, a bicycle would make it faster and quieter than if he patrolled on foot or in a car.
"He has come up with this different way of getting around and as soon as we can get a bike for him we're happy for him to do it that way," said Sergeant Richard Ball.
"He'll be able to get to places cars can't get to and what's more he'll have a silent approach."
He said the inquiry officer meant officers were not tied to the police station and could spend more time out on the beat.
"Before we were open from 9-10am and 6-7pm but only if the officers weren't committed elsewhere," Sgt Ball.
"This way they are free to be out and about and there will still be somebody here to deal with members of the public."
