Historian Adam Hart-Davis is presenting a Christmas lecture at Steam, Swindon's Museum of the Great Western Railway.

The lecture, at 6pm on Saturday, December 8, takes the same title as the historian's acclaimed TV series, What The Victorians Did For Us.

It will focus on some of the most important inventions pioneered by the Victorians.

This will include the work of his favourite Victorian, the builder of the Great Western Railway, Isambard King-dom Brunel.

The talk will take place inside the displays at the Rodbourne-based museum, with the audience seated alongside the GWR engine Caer-philly Castle.

Adult tickets for the event cost £5.50, pensioners' tickets £4 and children's tickets £3.50.

They are available in advance by telephoning Steam on Swindon 466655 or the Tourist Information Centre in Regent Street.

After the lecture, which is suitable for children as well as adults, there will be a chance to meet the author and historian and a book signing.
