IN a lacklustre and largely stalemated game, Frome did just enough to secure a victory. Minety started well and finished strongly, but were generally unable to convert their forward superiority into points.

Minety got the game off to a good start with an early pushover try by the pack, Andy Hurley coming up with the ball to claim the score. Frome recovered from this set back with a concerted team effort of their own. Their forwards secured line-out ball on their opponents' 22 and fed it out to their backs, who shipped it neatly down the line to their winger. He took it wide and rounded his man to run in for a try.

Immediately after the interval, Frome scored again, this time charging down a clearance kick and hacking on the loose ball before dropping on it once it had crossed the line.

Apart from a penalty to Frome mid-way through the half, that was the end of any scoring action.

The two sides played similar games and mostly cancelled each other out. Frome had a better set of backs on the day, Minety the superior pack of forwards. There were some good individual performances from members of the home team, especially James Smith, Philip Sturgeon, and Sean Richards in the first half and Ian Northcott in the second, but the team as a whole, though it worked hard, did not perform well.

Minety finished the game with a long period of pressure on the Frome line, but were unable to break down the visitors' solid defence.

Frome withdrew from the scheduled 1st XV friendly fixture in order to play a cup fixture. Minety return to action this Saturday with a home league game against old rivals Bridport. Kick-off is at 2.30 pm.
